Laura Tringali Holmes.

These works look at the voyeuristic and insular nature of American popular culture, with commentary on how not much has changed from the past to the present. About the eggs...of course they are embryonic, but they are also cages, and missiles.
With my choice of antique papers, I try to give viewers the sensation of looking at somebody else's memories and being able to feel what they felt when they felt it, juxtaposing the realities of then and now. Yes, it's a bit of a head game....
The works are deeply layered, with the decollaging process leaving rich colors of ink under the peel-offs. A variety of visual associations are embedded in color, texture, patterns, and imagery, many to support the theme of looking below the topmost plane to explore the layers of meaning that exist in even the most ordinary-appearing circumstances.
